Poor robotics

Did you know that my pal and brother-in-webcomic-arms John "The Bear" Allison's new strip launched on Monday? It's called "Bad Machinery", and it's got everything you'd expect from an exciting new webcomic. Amusing characters! Attractive pictures! Pleasing fonts! An empty cast page "to be uploaded later"! Prepare to mark a large, red metaphorical checkmark next to every item on your mental list of desires.

We return on Friday, with our next strip and a new round of "Q and A". If you've got a question you'd like to throw into the running, just plunk it into an email with "Q and A" in the subject line. Pow!

Jurisdiction

Those of you with sub-superhuman memories might need to dip back to this earlier comic to remind themselves about Sam and Morris' "jurisdiction" conversation. Hey... nothing to be ashamed of! It was almost a month ago. I barely remember what happened yesterday.

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Edition Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"What's the name of the Getrude's old boyfriend?" -Micha

Alberto Roberto Smithsonian Foster Johnson Fredrick Seattle Gregarious Robert Kowalski.

The fifth.

Good question!

"How are you liking the new grey color that you added at the start of this Volume/chapter? " -Tom

I'm actually really happy with it! I think it adds a lot more depth to my artwork. And when combined with my move to drawing on larger sheets of paper, it also lets me do a lot more with my backgrounds. One of my goals for Volume 5 was to improve the comic's sense of setting and make different locations feel more distinct and recognizable, and the added range of shading has really helped with that.

"How long ago did Sam and Fuzzy meet Edwin, and how did they meet?" -Dalton

They haven't known Edwin that long at all... just long enough to know that he's a repeat offender who is going to require a more ultimate solution than a few stern warnings. But as you can probably glean from this story's dialogue, Sam and Fuzzy have definitely dealt with other vampires (and werewolves) in the year or so that they've been running N-M-S.

"Do you ever think you will offer some sort of user competition so that they can feature as a guest character in your comic or some sort of design-a-character contest?" -Adam

Probably not! It's a fun idea, but I'm just really reluctant to slip any character into the comic that I didn't create myself.

I do think I'd be more comfortable having a contest where the winner themselves gets inserted as a random background extra or something. But I worry that, by the time they were converted into the "Sam and Fuzzy" style of character design, they might not be all that recognizable anymore. Kind of defeats the purpose!

That's all for this week! We return on Monday. See you then!
