I'm back from Victoria, where I was busy teaching middle school classes about comics! Although quite frankly, they all knew plenty about comics already. It is so exciting to be in a room of grade 8 students who love Bone and Calvin and Hobbes just as much -- if not more! -- than I did when I was there age. Awesome.
I had a complete blast drawing some live cartoons based entirely on student suggestions... even though my clumsy cheap-webcam-and-tripod setup combined with an eager, shouting audience necessitated that I draw said cartoons:
a) Without pencilling
b) As quickly as possible
b) From about foot to the right. (So my head stayed out of the camera's way!)
But we made do! Characters were born, vital details were hastily inserted on the fly, and the results were... well, see for yourself! I started typing up explanations for them, but you know what? I think they stand alone just fine.
See? Perfect sense!
But now, I'm afraid, I am completely exhausted! So enjoy today's comic(s), and we'll return for a new one and a new round Q and A on Monday. See you then!
