Bonus bonus
Book Club members! I am super aware (as you may be too) that you guys are overdue for bonus pack 3. As you can imagine, working on all the kickstarter stuff didn't leave me with a lot of time to assemble new bonuses. So here is my back-up plan: I'm going to merge bonus pack 3 into bonus pack 4, creating one doubled-up insane-size bonus pack for December.
To that end, I'd like your opinion on a thing or two! In the past, I've often included new desktop backgrounds. This time around, in addition to some new desktops, would you like it if I also included some mobile-device-shaped backgrounds? (That is to say, some backgrounds that are vertically oriented, rather than horizontal.) And are there any kind of (digital) rewards you would dig? (That are not extra comics; I love you but if I had that kind of time I'd update the regular comic more often!) Let me know!

Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Post-Spooktimes Edition

"So the Ninja Mafia doesn't use katanas (they are curved instead of perfectly straight) but I assume that they are a single edged blade. So in strip 1800 did Fuzzy intentionally try to smack Hazel with the flat end or did he make a mistake? Likewise, in strip 1801 did Hazel intentionally use the blunt end when she attacked Aaron?" -Tom
I think it's a fairly safe bet that neither Hazel nor Fuzzy were trying to actually kill anyone in that scene. On the other hand, the are also both kind of scrambling and emotional, and neither of them are really what you'd call experienced sword-wielders. So they might not even be paying that much attention.
I get a lot of number of emails about sword minutiae... types, handle lengths, sharp edges, you name it. This is maybe to be expected, since swords appear in the comic so frequently! But I think you guys are maybe approaching the issue from the wrong angle.
The kind of swords that generally appear in Sam and Fuzzy are cartoon swords. Which edges of the swords are sharp is not usually relevant, because cartoon swords are rarely used to cut people. Instead, they are primarily used for:
a) blocking other cartoon swords
b) deflecting laser beams (possibly into the ceiling to dislodge enemy-crushing rocks)
c) slicing effortlessly through robots, as though they were made of butter
That said, rest assured, in any dramatic moment where a sword actually needs to cut someone, it'll magically become sharp enough to do so!

I'm sorry, Karen! Every Sketch-Off, I get a billion ideas sent my way (partly because I take them from everybody, not just folks who are willing to buy the finished pieces), and I only have time to draw a tiny handful. (And of course, we still have some of the existing finished pieces available for sale, too!)

Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls! Last year I was Sully from Uncharted. Perhaps I'll do a third cranky older dude next year? It's a rich costume well, and I've got a lot of hair-greying powder left over.
