"I may have missed it but I recently reread the comic and I don’t remember Sam ever learning Hart’s real name. Wouldn’t Sam still just call him Fridge?" -Justin
Sam and co. learned Fridge's proper name when they read Hazel's journals about his time as the ninja emperor. I think Sam still thinks of him primarily as Fridge, but is simply acknowledging he's now aware that Hart is his real name... an awkward hesitancy that I tried to imply by putting "Hart" in quotations in his dialogue.
"Now that we know what is happening with Mr. Cin and Mr. Sim, will we ever get an update on the schemes of Mr. Sun?" -Aaron
Wow... I forgot all about Mr. Sun! I wonder if that guy is some sort of small critter that made off with one of Sin's spare exosuits, or if he's just a really unfortunate human being who naturally looks that way?
"Will every evil in the Sam and Fuzzy universe present and past ultimately be revealed as yet another incarnation of Mr Sin?" -Emilien
Haha, no, I promise! But Sin tends to be the common denominator anywhere in the S&F universe where the creation of cutting edge AI is concerned. It's Sin's bread and butter, and his "out of this world" tech puts him ahead of the curve compared to the rest of the planet. (I think it's safe to say that, in a world where Sin was not present, there probably wouldn't be anything as advanced as the Buddy Bots or the Megalopolis robots built in Sam's lifetime.)
I had a feeling that the "Cin is Unit 01" twist, despite delighting some readers, might also come across as a bit of a letdown to a few who were excited by the possibility of him being something totally new and unheard of. But part of what delights me about the reveal is that, in the end, the identity of true "creator figure" the robots have spent years wondering about is not really Mr. Sin... but rather, a complex system in which Sin's personality core, Designer's intents and restraints, and various automated elements create life basically by fighting against one another. There's a copy of Sin's personality inside Unit 01, and that copy has schemes and amibitions, but ultimately, Megalopolis 01 and its citizens are not something he wanted or even remotely intended to build. I think it's interesting to think about that, and how it does or doesn't support the assumptions of someone like P1-NTS 1-ZE!
That's a wrap for this week, friends. Come back on Monday for more comics!
