Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Sam vs Fuzzy Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!
"Many years ago at SDCC, I bought a commission from you and jokingly asked for a drawing of "the contents of the Pit". Obviously that was off-limits (I swear I didn't want spoilers anyway, haha) but now that the secret's finally out, if you were to get the same request today, how would you depict it? Would it be a completely black piece of paper? Or would you add its shore, or the chamber above?" -Jared
I actually carry around a package of black construction paper just in case someone asks. Be prepared!
"I was wondering, if Sam and Fuzzy had accepted their deals at the same time, who would have won - Brain or Hart?
(Also the way Hart made Fuzzy accept the deal made me cry a lot so thanks for that... In all seriousness, it's really amazing how heart-breaking you were able to make it in two pages.)" -Airyu
I got this question a while ago, but wanted to wait until this part of the story before answering! It's a pretty hypothetical question, because as we've since seen, ultimately neither Sam nor Fuzzy was willing to take a deal. But as a thought exercise, here's my guess about what would happen if they'd both actually gone for it.
I think Hart and Brain were perfectly matched and equally strong -- or weak, depending on your perspective -- so victory would come down entirely to the willpower of their chosen helpers. And Fuzzy, for better or for worse, is ultimately much more stubborn and sure of himself (even when he shouldn't be) than the deeply-conflicted Sam. When Fuzzy is sure about something, he's really sure about it, and it's incredibly hard to talk him out of it. I think that would give him the edge in this hypothetical scenario, much as it did in the actual story.
"What were the various patreon goals that were reached? Before their were goal markers; now I just see the number of patreon supporters?" -Alex
It's been a couple years since I had formal "goals" listed on Patreon, but my recollection is that most of mine were to start doing the various bonus drawings, pin-ups, and comics that I do for Patreon each month! I cleared them out some time after we'd hit them all.
Since then, I've continued to expand on those bonuses as I've gotten more backers. But I've just done that organically, based on backer feedback and requests, rather than posting any of those expansions as formal goals. For example, I now usually draw around five pieces a month for the Pin-Up art tier, just because it has a lot of supporters. (When it launched, I only did one or two a month!) I've also been able to start doing full comics for that tier, instead of just single drawings, which has been a lot of fun!
That's a wrap for this week, team! Come back on Monday for our next comic.

KRA-KHOOOM
Today, I'm busy making my way back home after another crazy Gen Con. Believe it or not, I've been out of town and away from my drawing table for the last three weeks, attending comic conventions and visiting my pals while all these crazy comics have been running. (I drew them all weeks ago!) But I'll be back home tonight, at last.
Anyway, please enjoy this extra long and extra bananas comic. And come back on Wednesday for the next one!
