Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Crisis Edition

"How many people actually know what started the tar disaster? Did anyone explain what the tar even is?" -Lilly
To the general public, the "eruption crisis" is the day that a giant monster and a bunch of toxic goo blasted out of the earth, caused a series of huge earthquakes, and then turned into stone. There's lots of speculation about what the tar monster actually was and why it attacked. But there's no real way to investigate it. The tar is all gone. All the recorded tar research is lost. The Pit is buried, and much of the Underground was destroyed.
Only a very tiny handful of the core S&F cast -- like Sam, Dev, Fuzzy and Rexford -- know the truth about the tar and the demons. The only one of them who has tried to tell the public about all that stuff is Fuzzy, who thoroughly chronicled his role in the saga in his self-aggrandizing autobiography. But most people probably view his book the same way we view that book Chuck Barris wrote about being a secret CIA assassin. (And to be fair, Fuzzy probably did take some liberties with the real story.)
The rest of the gang have chosen to keep quiet about it. After all, who would believe them anyway?
"While I know you’re taking a loooong break from Sam comics (and with 18 years of him, it’s definitely someone else’s turn in the spotlight!) but I wanted to know, with him having spent all those years growing, learning, and now looking for a job – is there any chance one of the Carlyle’s would consider hiring him?" -Robert
Haha! Sam may have earned it, but I don't think either of the Carlyles are in a hiring position. The younger Carlyle is still working as a cabbie, and... well I'm not exactly sure what the elder Carlyle is up to, but it's probably something of earth-shattering importance that only they can handle.
Speaking of Sam's job, though... we will probably see Sam turn up in his new job at the new N-M-S in the not too distant future, at least briefly. (And for anyone who likes my nsfw/pin-upy comics, one of the current storylines in my Saucy Hippo Patreon comics is actually about Gert hiring Sam for another improbable burlesque scheme.)
"I've been enjoying the recent stories! It's fun to see characters like Jess and Malcolm get some time in the spotlight. But are we going to see any stories starring brand new characters?" -Ami
Yes! Our very next chapter, actually. It's set in the S&F universe but stars a completely new inhuman character. A few new supporting characters as well! I'm looking forward to it.
I'm also going to be doing some chapters in the future that have nothing to do with the S&F universe at all. But I'm still pondering which one I want to tackle first, and what style of art I'll draw it in.
That's all for today, friends! But come back on Monday for our next comic.
