Ride on shooting star

I spent my weekend rewatching FLCL: one of my favourite cartoons ever.

The show itself is highly experimental, with rapidly changing artstyles and completely bizarre surrealist humour. But as strange as it is, it's not random. There's a method to the show's madness -- a completely realized-and-resolved plot and a coming-of-age theme that ties all the crazy together in a way that makes sense. Eventually. If you think about it really hard. And it's backed by some truly amazing and stylistically varied animation. You'd be hard-pressed to find a modern-day cartoon with more visual ingenuity and greater technical mastery than this one.

The show can be kind of confusing -- especially when it uses puns or cultural references that steadfastly refuse to translate into English intelligibly. But it's still a great watch that any animation fan should check out... even if they don't like anime. At the very least, you'll probably enjoy the incredible all-Pillows soundtrack.

Don't hold your breath I'm on the move

I just noticed today that there wasn't a single indication anywhere on my website's front page of what my comic's updating schedule is. It's been that way ever since the redesign! I wonder how many new readers I totally confused? In any event, I've corrected the oversight now. Eesh!

By the way... I am still keeping up with my pledge to answer all of the emails I receive. Can you believe it? I barely can myself!

Have a nice weekend everybody! "Tangent" continues on Monday.

Pressing matters

Dayfree Press has a slick new website! It was designed by Scott from White Ninja, sliced up and filled with content by moi, and then coded and optimized by my buddy Ashton. This is probably not the sort of thing that you all are likely to get excited about, but it took freaking forever to put together so I'm mentioning it here anyhow. Hah!
