Sam and Fuzzy Q & A: Fuchsia Edition
Got a question you want answered? Just drop me an email with "Q & A" in the subject line!

"Which of your characters do you hate the most? If there were one storyline, concept, or idea from your comic you regret and wish you could make disappear forever, but is too ingrained to ever be able to do this, what would it be?" -Noah

I don't think I hate any of my characters, Noah! There are certainly some that are more fun to draw or write for than others, but there's no one that I've grown to despise or regret including.

But Sam and Fuzzy has a pretty fluid cast, with characters frequently being written out of the strip once they've completed their arc or served their purpose to the story. So I never really get "stuck" with characters that I no longer have use for. Actually, it's often the other way around... I've "lost" a lot of characters that I loved working with, just because their arc wrapped up, or because they don't fit into the new story. (Or, uh, because they died.)

As for storylines and other concepts, sure, there are tons of little things I wish were different in the old comics... art that's pretty rough around the edges, dialogue that feels awkward to me, and on and on. But that's the problem with being an artist. Every step you take towards improvement just gives you one more thing to hate about your old work.

"What the devil is going on at the bottom of the stairs in the first panel of Wednesday's comic?! Is the werewolf getting counseling or something?" -Joel

If you read today's comic, then now you know!

"Are we going to get an Edwin shirt?" -Ash

You sure are! It'll be out sometime in October. I'll post a preview of it closer to its release.

"After reading Adam's question and your response, I have a different question. Would you consider doing commissions where people send in pictures of themselves and you turn them into Sam and Fuzzy style characters?" -Rebecca

Sure. That's actually the most common commission art request that I get!

I kind of took an unannounced, unintentional break from doing commission work over the summer, just because I was so busy with Comic-con and moving... but things have quieted down lately, so I can probably start doing them again. If you're interested, just drop me a line with a brief outline of what exactly you had in mind, and I'll be happy to give you a quote. (It's usually something in the $50-$150 range, depending on how mind-blowingly complex your request is.)

"It seem like it has been a while since you have talked about music. What's currently playing in your rotation?" -William

Joel Plaskett, the Katamari Forever soundtrack, and an ungodly quantity of remastered Beatles albums.

That's all for this week! See you on Monday.

Poor robotics

Did you know that my pal and brother-in-webcomic-arms John "The Bear" Allison's new strip launched on Monday? It's called "Bad Machinery", and it's got everything you'd expect from an exciting new webcomic. Amusing characters! Attractive pictures! Pleasing fonts! An empty cast page "to be uploaded later"! Prepare to mark a large, red metaphorical checkmark next to every item on your mental list of desires.

We return on Friday, with our next strip and a new round of "Q and A". If you've got a question you'd like to throw into the running, just plunk it into an email with "Q and A" in the subject line. Pow!

Jurisdiction

Those of you with sub-superhuman memories might need to dip back to this earlier comic to remind themselves about Sam and Morris' "jurisdiction" conversation. Hey... nothing to be ashamed of! It was almost a month ago. I barely remember what happened yesterday.
